To me, Botticelli's painting of Venus seems the epitome of joy. It was natural to appropriate the pose for a composition about positive relationships.
This image took more than a month to create, mostly time spent in creating the figure. The figure took a while to sculpt into this pose because Botticelli took many liberties with anatomy...for example, the neck and head in his painting are at impossible angles and one arm sort of drapes off the figure. The figure remains beautiful and memorable, possibly because of the 'imperfections.'
